Aranda Indigenous Artists of the former Hermannsburg Mission est. 1897 proudly present yet another chapter in their well and truly established tradition of making contemporary Art. Hermannsburg has enjoyed a rich dynamic relationship with contemporary art since the days of Albert Namitjira and his sons painted the vibrant and unforgettable images of their desert country.
We have come to recognize this group of women artists as potters and
ceramicists, and have enjoyed the painterly quality of their glazing
techniques. This distinctive style and vision with its foundation in the
Namatjira style of landscape painting is now being applied to works on
canvas by the artists.
A change in medium but not a change in artistic vision.

The finely modeled sculptures that impart uniqueness to the Hermannsburg pottery have their origins in the tactile manipulation of earth and clay within Aranda custom and tradition, and are linked to the schoolroom innovators of the past and the teachers who are fondly remembered by the potters of today.
